Landlords of commercial and industrial properties, and public buildings, including domestic properties with shared communal or common areas are regulated under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Landlords need to fully recognise their responsibilities for the maintenance or repair of non-domestic premises through an agreed tenancy agreement or contract.
Artisan can support landlords with your Asbestos Register and Management Plan. Required by law under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 for all commercial properties, it is a legal requirement for all buildings built before the year 2000.
In September of this year, the giant building merchants, Jewson were fined £400,000 over failing to appropriately manage asbestos containing materials in a Middlesbrough branch, potentially putting people’s lives at risk.
A concern was raised in 2019 and Environmental Health visited the site that October, where an Inspection confirmed that several materials and asbestos fibres had been released. The Independent online reported that despite multiple surveys being undertaken over the course of more than a decade, Jewson’s had repeatedly failed to manage the asbestos within the property.
Stark Building Materials UK Ltd, trading as Jewson, pleaded guilty to failing to protect the health and safety of persons in its employment, members of the public, and contract workers, by failing to effectively manage asbestos.
With an Artisan Asbestos Management Survey, you can be assured that our surveyors will visit each site conducting an inspection that includes material risk assessment and sample analysis by a UKAS Accredited Laboratory.
