The Health and Safety at Work regulations specify that every employer needs to appoint one or more competent persons to assist with undertaking measures needed to comply with the legislation.

The Competent Person can be an in house member of staff if they have received sufficient training and experience to enable them to properly assist with compliance. Many companies choose to outsource this important task to save time and allow them to focus on their service to their clients.
